Health And Fitness | Dealing With Headaches Migraines :: By Jeffrey ...

Those of us who suffer from migraines know that there is a hell and what the pain of living there feels like. There is no other feeling in this world that compares to a migraine; women have even said that child birth was easy compared to a migraine in the dead of night. The fact is that when you are in the middle of a migraine attack you feel like you are about to go insane form the pain. You want nothing else to happen in this world except for it to break and the pain to stop.

The truth is that medicine is not exactly sure what causes no a migraine, nor do they know why some people have them and other don?t. They cannot even tell us why some of them are just and aching pain that makes you miserable and why some "blossom" into a full on attack that leaves you balled up in your bathroom floor crying like a baby. There has been a lot of research in recent years and now migraines are classified into groups and there are some things that you can do to help keep the pain at bay. Migraines are a problem that affects men and women, young and old. The only groups of people it seems migraines don?t affect are babies and those who are dead, and in the middle of the attack you will cry like the former and wish you were part of the latter.

Types of Migraines

In recent years migraines have been classified into three groups, Tension Migraines are caused by the contraction of blood vessels to the brain which leads to an overabundance of blood in the area. This is due to the fact that the veins which carry blood away for the brain are located on the rear of the shoulders and neck, the same place most people store most of their tension when under a stressful situation. When the pressure build up your goanna have a migraine. These migraines almost never blossom and can be easily treated with rest, relaxing and over-the-counter medicines. Some doctors do not even consider these to be true migraines. But don?t try to tell that to a person who is in the middle of dealing with one.

The Cause of Olular Migraines is not known. This is the classic migraine and the one that makes you feel like you have a truck sitting on your head. These migraines affect your entire head and will come on within a short while, sometimes minutes. When one occurs there is now build up. It?s just begins and "blossoms" almost immediately. These migraines also have a tendency to stick around for a while, sometime hours, sometimes days. They usually will require a trip to a doctor to get relief.

Microsedular migraines used to be called cluster migraines. These are related to Olular migraines but they do generally have a buildup period. They do not always blossom and in fact if you treat them effectively at the start you can stop them in their track in many cases. They only affect a particular area of the head. In many that area is the same every time, in some however it can change with each event or even during an event. They will often break easily if given the proper treatment, after only a few hours.

Ways to Cope with the Pain of a Migraine

There are a lot of ways that you can cope with the pain of a migraine once you are dealing with one. Many of these things cannot be explained as to why they are effective but they do work for the majority of people who are afflicted.
Cold--Cold Compresses and lying down in front of a very strong air conditioner are great ways to lessen the pain. It is believed that the cold causes blood to rush to your body to help warm you and therefor is drawn away from the pressure in your head.

I?m not kidding; drink enough to float a boat if you have to but keep drinking. Water can also help in regards to the first idea of cold. Many people swear by sitting in a bathtub of freezing water to help break the migraine.

In addition to these methods the best is simply quiet and rest and dark to help alleviate the issue. With these tips and with some of the advice that you can find online, you will be able to find ways to battle your migraines and gain a better understanding of what causes them in your life.
